Mt Parahaka from Whangarei
This is a view of Mt Parahaka (middle of the background) from the town basin. The town basin is full of lovely sailboats and features giftshops and restaurants. An oasis of beauty in a city that has many unattractive areas.

Hardly the skyscraping mountains of Canada. It looks very similar to here minus the Eucalyptus forests.
I believe the the real mountains are on the south island. Certainly, that is where the best skiing is. No sharks if you are alpine skiing!
You haven't heard of the snow sharks of NZ?
