First Stop
We went camping for the long weekend and enjoyed a lovely circle tour of part of the North Island. We travelled west to the town of Dargaville, set on this river. After exploring the local park and stocking up on a few supplies we headed north, along the west coast of the island and camped in Wapoua Forest. We then carried on north to Hokianga harbour, followed the harbour east to Rawene, and travelled the rest of the way south to our home on an inland road. The scenery at every point was nothing less than spectacular. It seemed fitting to spend the Waitangi Day weekend exploring our new country.

Gosh, it sounds like you all had a fabulous trip. Thanks for posting all these gorgeous pics for those of us whose local scenery consists of, hhmmm, suburbs and shopping centers. There are actually some pretty parts of NJ, just not any right around the corner from our location.
Thanks also for the views of a warm climate. We've got a blizzard headed our way this weekend. Predictions for total snowfall range from 8" to about 1.5 feet. That's enough to close the state for a couple of days, no problem.
Mmmm... Hot chocolate, a warm blanket and a fire in the fireplace. Sounds good to me!
We loved looking at your camping adventure. It is different then the old days but looks just as fun. We wish we were there camping with you. Love the pics.
Hi Kathleen
As you know last year we really enjoyed holidaying on the South Island of NZ.
I am looking forward either this year or next to holidaying on the North Island.
Thanks for all of your wonderful pictures !!
best wishes
Wendy:
I was feeling terribly homesick as we backed for the the trip. It didn't feel right to be camping without you guys.

Thanks for the comment. I hope you will drop by if you do make it up here.
I love seeing the pics of your adventures! I am glad you started a blog.
You can thank Wendy, she made me do it. But imagine how lovely it would be to add pictures of the subtropical garden that you had built for us? When will you be here?
I'd be there in a heartbeat if I had the cash. A subtropical garden would be fun to do. I can just imagine myself at a nursery over there. My palms are already starting to sweat....
Sandy,
Was that pun intended? My palms are setting fruit: we have banana palms at our new place.
If I had the cash, I would fly you over. Maybe you can give me a few tips, if I post some photos. It can be your virtual sub-tropical garden.
We never did get around to lighting a fire, but we had lots of cocoa while snuggling under the throws and reading P. B. Bear :)
We got about 20 unches of snow yesterday. Pretty much closed down the state until this evening.
