Sunday Surf
We decided to do a little exploring. We drove to Mangawhai Heads, just south of Bream Bay. We stopped in the village and had a fabulous lunch at the Barracuda Cafe. The walls were decorated with wonderful metal sculptures of fish, suitable for hanging in a garden or indoors. I might go back someday to get one for our garden. We then went to the surf beach. We climbed surf hill for these photos.
This shot is looking south of surf hill. To the left of the sand bar, were a number of, you guessed it, surfers. The other side of the sand bar is a cove inhabited by boats.

Wow! That is beautiful. There is a big surf culture here too. Visit the surf shops for the best hats, shorts, and summer ware. I might even pull out the old long board one of theses days.
Thanks for the tip.
I have never surfed before. Do you think I stand a chance of learning this late in life?
Sharks...big Sharks....be afraid..very afraid. Okay I have a fear of sharks.
There are more people killed by dogs in the United States each year than are killed by sharks worldwide each year. However, it is easier to recover the bodies in the United States. Why the Americans publish such stats is beyond me.
Andrew,
You must take into account that we are living with dogs 24/7 so the stat would certainly be higher because the exposure is higher. Most of us are in the water only a few times a year (probably less then that) Comparision to a dog attack is like comparing apples and oranges. We need a better comparison. We need a comparison where the exposure to the incident is the similar.
I think you are in DENIAL! By-the-way, it is illegal to kill a white pointer in Australia. They are PROTECTED! (god dam greenpeace).
Right on Wendy!
Andrew can be so full of s..t.(oops, his mother reads this, Hi Dorothy!) stats!
