Thanks Sandy!
Brenna says Manti has lovely eyes too, if you look closely.

What a fabulous shot. Love it. Her eyes are amazingly blue. I can see the delight in her eyes that she has found a little discovery.

Lovely shot.

Okay Kathleen I have read most of the info from that link on salmon farming in BC and I think I might do a posting on salmon farming from that link and further research.

I think farmers are often enviromentally minded and many have a passionate interest(despite the hardsdhip and sometimes tears) in preserving nature and working along side her.

After all we both need to co-exist !!

So what I want to do is put my weight if I can in support of what I think maybe is a sustainable industry ........one that is possibly sustainable in perpetuity ? and is striving to do that.

I understand the strike rate of the eggs is 90%/95% compared to only 1-2% in their natural state where the eggs are consumed by natural predators. Is that correct ?

Best wishes

Wendy and Lindsay:
Thanks for the compliment. I was not the star of my photography course in journalism school. However, I did learn to get close to the subject and to take lots of shots in the hope that one might be usable.

Lindsay, I never could understand the idea put forth by self-proclaimed evironmentalists that wild salmon stocks could be improved by eating more wild salmon instead of farmed fish. Furthermore, the farmers have a strong incentive to farm in an enviromentally sustainable manner. If they don't, the farmed fish are the first to show the deleterious effects and farmers don't make any money.
As for your specific question re egg strike, I will get my husband to address that later.

Hi Sylvanna,
Welcome to Aquaculture Migrants!

Thank-you for the compliment. I would love to say I set up the shot and knew as soon as I clicked the button that I had it. Of course none of that would be true. Brenna set-up the pose and I was concentrating on the mantis, not Brenna. Just got lucky.

She does have lovely eyes. They stood out so well when she was a bald baby. Hair is coming in nicely, finally!.
