The Weather and Other Conversations
Frankly, this post is expressly for the purpose of starting a new line of comments as I am too lazy to continue scrolling through all the comments in Paradise Lost.
We had a quiet long weekend at home and did not take any brilliant photos. Continued to enjoy the local beach and cleaned the garage (Yippee!!!). I have the girls home with me for one more week, then school starts on 7 Feb.

Hi Lindsay:
Nice to hear from you again. Yes we are homesick for BC. First of all for family and friends that are there, secondly for the place. I miss the mountains and the forests although I think the South Island of NZ has a similar landscape. I also miss eating lots of salmon. When Andrew was farming salmon we had access to the fish at very low cost. Now we tend to eat the local species of seafood. Shellfish that we collect ourselves and Snapper and other fish that friends catch and share with us.
We come from Vancouver Island. We would never see temperatures of -20C like your friend in Nelson. The coastal climate is much more temperate. (By the way, Nelson is a very pretty town and a number of Hollywood films have been made there, including "Roxanne" starring Steve Martin).
If you do visit BC, both Nelson and Vancouver Island are terrific destinations. The city of Vancouver is also beautiful.
Wendy and I used to live in the same neighborhood, so you can discuss Vancouver Island with either of us.
It is still a bit damp here in Northland but should clear for our proposed camping trip on the weekend.
Regards.
Hi Kathleen
I love Salmon and eat smoked salmon almost every day !!.
In the the UK Daily Telegraph newspaper researches from Manchester in the UK gave fish oil to 42 healthy people in a trial. They discovered that fish may be useful in preventing skin cancer, from the Mega 3 fatty acids found in fish such as salmon which maybe enable protection to the skin against DNA damages with skin cancer !!So keep eating that salmonn, like me.
I buy Tasmanian smoked salmon,my favourite and salmon steaks.
Thanks for the other info and I will make a link on my blog soon to you as I did with Wendy.
I suggested to Wendy to write about Salmon Farming, but I guess you could both do that.
Interesting !!
Best wishes
Lindsay
Although not everyone in our home Province believes this, many salmon farmers are drawn to the industry because they are well aware of the the health benefits of a diet high in omega-3 fatty acids and the quality protein found in salmon.
Rather than Wendy and I re-writing information about salmon farming, I'll add a link to the BC Salmon Farmers' Asssociation. Will also add a link to your blog.
Not much to miss lately in the old neighborhood! The bloody rain hasn't stopped for over a month. I'm getting cranky....or maybe just a wee bit hungover from a liitle silliness from last night.
Yes, it is summer here but you are there! Lots to miss. Absolutely. Boo Hoo!
Kathleen- Well directed comment for Lindsey. I will do an eventual post on Salmon farming but politics can be so thick that I am afraid that I wont cover every angle.
Australia has a very good attitude towards Salmon farming. We feel welcome. Their attitude helps us feel good about sharing the full extent of our salmon farming knowledge. We still eat salmon several times a week. Love it
Wendy, I guess I need a change of mindset. I am kicking myself for not buying salmon when it was on special. I find it hard to pay full price for it after having access to cheap salmon in Canada, but we should buy it in support of NZ salmon farmers.
